The Edward Abbey Institute is a home for the Green Movement. Inspired by the desert tortoise, the Institute site will serve as a center for innovation directed towards environmental sustainability. By using techniques suited for the desert - such as rammed earth construction and solar energy - the Institute will be a driver of local technology and a testbed for the Green Movement.
The Institute will feature Indoor and outdoor amphitheaters which will host arts festivals, and science symposia, dedicated to the Green movement. On site full content media production facilities will support the Institute's effort to communicate recent advances in the Green Movement.
The Institute will collaborate with universities, industries, and local municipalities to leverage our efforts towards the Green Movement. .To support educators and innovators, the Institute will feature meeting and office space, state-of-the-art laboratories, and a fully equipped maker-space for prototype development.
Edward Abbey loved the Sonoran desert. The Institute will live where Abbey lived, offering access to beautiful nature walks and mountain bike rides. For issues of environmental sustainability, the Sonoran desert setting offers unique advantages and challenges, such as abundant sunshine and scarcity of water. These local conditions dictate that the Institute should lead efforts in solar energy evolution and water conservation. By aligning technology development efforts with local environmental conditions, the Edward Abbey Foundation will espouse the finest traditions of the Green movement.
